Edna's Recipe

Flour (=8 cup)

Place yeast in a glass, add a dash of flour, a dash of sugar and 1 cup lukewarm water and let rise for 10-15 min.

Using slow speed and dough hook of a mixer, mix together all ingredients for ~8 minutes.
Add small quantity of flour or water, if needed.

Place in a clean bowl, place this bowl in another container with hot water and let rise for ~1 hour, until double in size.
Punch down and let rise again for ~20 minutes.

Roll out and spread each section with filling (see below).

If using ~12x5.5 bread pans (standart American loaf pans): divide into 9 sections and braid 3 sections together to create 3 loafs.
If using 5 ~12x4 bread pan )standart israeli loaf pans): divide to 10 sections and braid 2 section together to create 5 loafs.

Mix yolk with a few drops of water to make an eggwash and brush over loafs.

Bake at 350F for ~50 min.  

For filling (1) Cocoa, margarine and sugar (2) ground walnuts, sugar and margarine (3) poppy seeds mixture (4) Date paste
